Business Process Automation (BPA), is the strategy a business uses to automate processes in order to contain costs. It consists of integrating applications, restructuring labor resources and using software applications throughout the organization.

The Business Process Automation consulting engagement will move through several phases to assure clear and logical determinations. Every organization is unique and the specific IT needs, capabilities and objectives are unique to the goals and aspirations of a corporation. As a provider, Computer Aide does not offer canned services but rather every engagement is custom designed to meet the organization’s specific requirements and unique goals. However, most engagements do follow a similar process that is described below.

  Strategy Wheel

Step 1 - Analyze

During this stage, the current state and desired state of IT operations, security and other areas that are the focus of the engagement are accessed; and a course for moving from the current state to the desired state is determined. This defines the scope of the consulting arrangement and clearly defines the responsibilities and expectations of the Client and the Provider. Once the clear identification of the areas of automation are completed, the Client and the Provider discuss and prioritize the various opportunities for automation.

step 2 - Design and Model

For each of the areas determined as opportunities for automation, a process of designing and modeling begins to clearly define how the automation processes can be accomplished, simplified or improved within the Client’s operations and strategy. This critical phase will further refine the scope of the consulting arrangement.

step 3 - document

Critical to the success of any project or engagement is the documentation of solution(s) to be created or streamlined. This helps to tightly define and describe how the automation will be accomplished and what dependencies are present.

step 4 - automate

The development of the automation process will involve the adherence to the analysis, design/model, and documentation of the solution(s) to be provided. This automation process will utilize standard development techniques and practices and will take advantage of the tools and software available to accomplish the solution(s) efficiently.

step 5 - optimize

Once implementation of each of the solutions are complete, it is critical to review the process to assure that the automation accomplished the desired goals. Additionally, this step is used to review what further steps, refinements or automations can or should be accomplished.
